Club Details
The Greers Ferry Walleye.Club (GFWC) is a fishing club designed to educate members, share information, and partner with state and federal officials focused on Greers Ferry Lake. Club members participate in seminars taught by resident walleye fishing experts and take part in hands-on training, learning proven methods to become successful walleye anglers. Greers Ferry Walleye.Club focuses on walleye fishing and provides a venue where anglers can come together to learn how to fish for walleye on Greers Ferry Lake.>
During the 1980s, many walleye weighing over 20 pounds were caught in Greers Ferry Lake. In 1982, a world-record walleye in the 12-pound line class was caught there. More 20-pound-plus walleyes have been caught in Greers Ferry Lake than in any other lake in the United States. However, since the 1980s, walleye fishing in Greers Ferry Lake has slowly declined. Arkansas Game and Fish Commission (AGFC) biologists believe this decline is the result of changes—some natural and others man-made—that have occurred within the lake.
Working Together With Various Agencies
Due to the decline in walleye numbers in Greers Ferry Lake, Greers Ferry Walleye.Club partners with AGFC biologists to help improve walleye fishing. Fishing for walleye in Greers Ferry Lake is not easy. A former professional walleye angler who spent years on the Professional Walleye Fishing Tour once stated, “Fishing for walleye is more like hunting than simply fishing.”
Greers Ferry Lake is one of the most beautiful lakes in the United States; however, successful walleye fishing there requires specific skills, knowledge, and tools. First, Greers Ferry is a deep, clear reservoir, and walleyes—with their sensitive eyes—often stay deep and avoid light, making them difficult to catch. Second, water levels in Greers Ferry Lake fluctuate regularly, which further complicates targeting walleye.
Partnering, Not Competing
Knowing what tackle to use, applying strategies learned through seminars, fishing alongside skilled walleye anglers, and using club-shared knowledge all help improve an angler’s success. Greers Ferry Walleye.Club is not a competitive tournament-style club. No fishing contests are scheduled or planned.
The primary purpose of Greers Ferry Walleye.Club is to share information among its members. One key tool for accomplishing this is the club website, which allows members to share photos of their walleye catches, along with location, depth, methods used, GPS coordinates, and other relevant information. This information is distributed to members via email. While members are encouraged to share their catch details, participation is optional.
All Are Welcome: Novices And Experts
The club includes novice anglers who have never fished for walleye—or even other species—as well as experienced anglers, including former professional walleye tournament fishermen. If you are new to fishing, do not feel intimidated. Other members are eager to help you become a successful angler. As a member, you may even have the opportunity to fish from the boat of one of the experienced anglers, so there is no need to feel overwhelmed.
Multi-Species Fishing Club
While the Greers Ferry Walleye.Club emphasizes walleye fishing, it is a multi-species fishing club. This means that even if walleye is not your primary target species, Greers Ferry Walleye.Club can still benefit you. The club offers seminars on other species, and partnerships with state and federal agencies benefit all anglers on Greers Ferry Lake. There is strength in numbers—the more members the club has, the stronger its voice when working with the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission and other agencies.
Club Membership
For just $25 per year, our members receive access—when released—to valuable walleye-related information, including Greers Ferry contour maps, fish habitat maps, monthly dissolved oxygen and temperature reports, instructional videos, and other tools designed to help members become better anglers. This information is helpful not only for walleye anglers but for all fishermen.
